A classic, quick, and nostalgic peanut butter and jelly sandwich, perfect for lunch or a snack.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings: 1
Course: Snack
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 2 slices white bread or whole wheat, sourdough, or gluten-free bread
  • 2 tbsp creamy or crunchy peanut butter use natural peanut butter for a healthier option
  • 1-2 tbsp grape or strawberry jelly or low-sugar fruit spread
  • 1 tsp butter or margarine optional, for toasting
  • Optional: pinch of cinnamon sliced bananas, or honey

Method

  1. Prepare Your Workspace: Lay out two slices of bread on a clean plate or cutting board. Have your peanut butter, jelly, and a butter knife or spatula ready.
  2. Spread the Peanut Butter: Spread 1-2 tablespoons of peanut butter evenly on one side of the first bread slice. Use a butter knife to ensure a smooth layer, covering the entire surface to the edges. This creates a barrier to prevent sogginess.
  3. Add the Jelly: On the second slice of bread, spread 1-2 tablespoons of jelly evenly on one side. Use a clean knife or spoon to avoid cross-contamination. Depending on how sweet you like your food, adjust the amount.
  4. Assemble the Sandwich: Place the peanut butter-covered slice on top of the jelly-covered slice, ensuring the spreads face each other. To seal the sandwich, lightly press.
  5. Cut and Serve: Slice the sandwich diagonally or into rectangles for easy eating. Serve immediately with a glass of milk, fruit, or chips for a classic meal.

Notes

  • Storage: Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 day or freeze for up to 1 month (wrap tightly in plastic wrap and a freezer-safe bag).
  • Prevent Sogginess: Spread peanut butter on both slices to block jelly moisture.
  • Substitutions: Use almond butter for peanut allergies, or swap jelly for honey or fresh fruit.
  • Fun Twist: Cut into shapes with cookie cutters for kids or add chia seeds for extra nutrition.
  • Toasting Option: Lightly butter the outside of the bread and toast in a skillet for 2-3 minutes per side for a warm, crispy sandwich.
