Ingredients

  • 1 tsp chili powder or ancho chili powder for a milder flavor
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder optional, skip for onion-free version
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • ¼ tsp dried oregano or 1 tsp fresh chopped cilantro
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes optional, for a spicy kick

Method

  1. Mix spices: In a small bowl, combine chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Stir until well blended.
  2. Adjust seasoning: Taste a small pinch and add more salt or red pepper flakes to suit your preference.
  3. Use or store: Use 1–2 tsp of seasoning per 2 avocados for guacamole, or transfer to an airtight container for storage.

Notes

  • Storage: Keep in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months. For best flavor, use within 3 months.
  • Spicy Option: Replace chili powder with 1 tsp cayenne pepper or add ½ tsp chipotle powder for extra heat.
  • Onion-Free Tip: Substitute onion powder with 1 tsp finely chopped fresh parsley or chives for a fresh, savory note.
  • Guacamole Prep: For a quick dip, mix 1–2 tsp of seasoning with 2 mashed avocados and 1 tbsp lime or lemon juice.
