Ingredients
  

For the Apple Filling:

  • 6 medium apples peeled and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour or cornstarch for gluten-free

For the Crisp Topping:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats or gluten-free oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour or almond flour for gluten-free
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted (or coconut oil for vegan)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Peel and slice apples into 1/4-inch wedges. Toss with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour in a large bowl. Spread into a greased 9x9-inch baking dish.
  • In a medium bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Pour in melted butter and vanilla (if using), stirring until crumbly.
  • Sprinkle topping evenly over apples, pressing lightly.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, until topping is golden and apples are bubbling.
  • Cool for 5-10 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Storage: Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
  • Substitutions: Use coconut oil for vegan or almond flour for gluten-free. Try pears for a twist.
  • Spicy Kick: Add 1/4 tsp cayenne or ginger for extra flavor.
  • Serving: Drizzle with caramel sauce for a decadent touch.
